What sells in Oregon
Crater Lake is the showpiece. It is a lake inside a collapsed volcano, very deep, with Wizard Island rising out of it. As a lake depth map with the crater rim in elevation around it, it is about as dramatic as a map gets. Visitors buy it, and so do map lovers who have never been.
Portland sells by neighborhood and by quadrant. The river and bridges give any city street map a centerpiece. Bend sells to skiers and the many people who moved there. Eugene and Corvallis sell to alumni.

Making a laser cut Oregon ornament
Oregon is wider than tall, with the Columbia River forming the wavy northern border and the Pacific coast on the west. At 4 in, the inside has room for I-5 down the Willamette Valley, I-84 along the Columbia, US-97 through Bend, and Crater Lake as a tiny round cut-out. That little circle is the detail people point at.
Terrain is a great option too. Two or three elevation levels show the Cascades running north to south with the high desert to the east. A star on Mount Hood is a nice touch.
Coastal pins need a check. The outline is simplified, so in our check Cannon Beach, Newport and Bandon were inside, but Astoria at the river mouth fell outside. Check the outline in the Studio. Green and yellow for the Ducks, orange and black for the Beavers.

As a small round cut-out, yes. It is a nice detail to add on its own water layer.
Is Astoria inside the Oregon outline?
Not in our check. The outline is simplified at the mouth of the Columbia. Check in the Studio, and use a round frame for Astoria.
