Laser maps of the places people love.

Search a city, a lake, a mountain or a course. MappSmith turns the real streets, terrain and lake depths into layered cut files for LightBurn, xTool or Glowforge, or print-and-cut files for a UV printer.

Press and hold on the sheet to fire the laser.Tap or hold on the sheet to fire the laser.

Every layer is its own sheet.

Streets from OpenStreetMap, real elevation, surveyed lake depths. The Studio splits them into sheets that line up: blue water at the bottom, the land with the lake cut through it, the roads on top, held together by the frame.

Nine sheets. One Lake Tahoe.

This is the Studio's own output for Lake Tahoe: a base, five depth plates cut to the lake's survey, the land with every street engraved, the road pieces, and the frame with the name.

Pebble Beach Golf Links · Championship finish

Their home course, hole by hole.

Search any course by name. Fairways, greens, tees, bunkers, water and trees come in as their own pieces, raised off the board or carved into it. Par and yardage come from the course itself, onto a plaque.

Breckenridge · Simple look Beta

Ski resorts, run by run.

Any resort on OpenSkiMap: a wood mountain, the runs welded into one white piece, the trees, and a plaque with the summit, the vertical and the run count. Raised, carved, engraved or printed.

Minneapolis · Engraved + cut Beta

Any map, cut into a real jigsaw.

The map is engraved, then cut into pieces right to the edge, every shared edge cut once. Or glue two layers for a hard one, or UV print it first.

Roanoke · Bauble, backer and front frame

A hometown to hang on the tree.

Ornaments come with the hanger hole already cut and the name and year on a bar, in eleven shapes from bauble to stocking. Coasters, clocks and key holders come off the same map.

Pick a place. Put your name on it.

Each of these is the Studio's real output. Pick one and watch it re-form sheet by sheet, then type a title and the laser burns it round the frame.

  1. Real map data

Streets from OpenStreetMap, real elevation for terrain, and lake depths from surveys. A lake with no survey gets modelled depth, labelled as modelled.

  2. Sheets that line up

Water at the bottom, land with the lakes cut through it, roads on top held by the frame band. Every sheet registered to the others.

  3. Files your laser opens

LightBurn (.lbrn2), xTool (.xs), DXF and layered SVG, which the Glowforge app reads. Cut red, score blue, engrave black.

  4. Print and cut

Any sheet can print instead of cut. PNG, TIFF with a white channel, or PDF with a CutContour line and registration marks.

  5. Names that fit the piece

The place name round the frame band, a name bar with a date, words anywhere on the plate, in any of 1,897 Google fonts.

  6. Place names on the map

Street, park and water names placed for you along the map and knocked out of what sits under them. Beta, US places.

  7. Sheets of stock

Lay several maps out on one sheet and cut them together, with registration marks that never fire.

  8. Assembly guide

A PDF that puts the sheets in order, bottom to top, with numbered pieces, so a tall stack glues up in the right order.

Or UV print it, in full colour.

The same San Francisco from the print engine, in each theme. Pick one and recolour any feature. Print and cut files come with a CutContour PDF and registration marks, so the cutter finds the print.

Custom map orders sell well. Making the file is the part nobody wants.

If you sell what you make, this is for you.

Laser shops, UV print shops and anyone making custom map gifts. Everything you make is yours to sell, on every plan.

Made by a shop that cuts maps.

MappSmith is made by Maker Foundry, the team behind TumblerForge, PatchForge and ToneSmith. We run a working laser and print shop, so it is built for real orders: the drag-the-map-a-block requests, the stack that has to glue up right, the file that has to open on the first try.

Questions before you start?

What is MappSmith?

A map designer for makers with a laser or a UV printer. Search a place, pick what you are making, style the layers and download production files: layered SVG, LightBurn (.lbrn2), xTool (.xs) and DXF to cut, or PNG, TIFF with white and PDF with CutContour to print.

Does it work with my laser?

If your software opens LightBurn, xTool Creative Space, DXF or SVG files, yes. For a Glowforge, upload the cut SVG: engrave, score and cut come in as separate colours (black, blue and red), so they arrive as separate steps.

What do I need?

A computer with a current browser such as Chrome, Edge or Firefox, with hardware acceleration turned on. The Studio is built for a desktop or laptop screen.

Can I sell what I make?

Yes. Commercial use comes with every plan, including maps bought ten at a time.

What counts as one map?

A downloaded map uses one credit. Downloading the same map again within 7 days, after changing its words, layers or materials, is free. A new place, size or shape is a new map. Credits never expire.

How does the free trial work?

The Maker plan starts with 7 days free with full access. You add a card to start; it is charged when the trial ends unless you cancel first, and each person gets one trial. All sales are final after that, so the trial is the time to try everything.
