How to add fonts to xTool Creative Space and LightBurn
xTool Creative Space and LightBurn both use the fonts installed on your computer. Install the font once and it shows up in both, after a restart.
Add a font in four steps
- Find the font in FontSmith (type your own text to compare) and click Download. You get a .ttf or .otf file.
- Install it. Mac: double-click the file and click Install in Font Book. Windows: right-click the file and choose Install for all users.
- Quit xTool Creative Space or LightBurn completely, then open it again.
- Pick the text tool, type your words and choose the font from the font list.
Font not showing up?
- Restart properly. On a Mac, closing the window is not quitting: use Quit from the app menu or Command+Q.
- On Windows, use Install for all users. Some programs only list fonts installed that way.
- Look it up by its family name, not the file name. "GreatVibes-Regular.ttf" shows up as Great Vibes.
- Web font files (.woff2) do not install. Download the .ttf or .otf instead.
Picking a font that engraves and cuts well
- Small engraving: a sans serif or slab with open letters stays readable the longest.
- Cutting letters out: choose a script whose letters touch, then weld or union them so they cut as one piece.
- Very thin scripts and hairline serifs can lose their thin strokes. Test on scrap at your real size before a customer job.
Questions
Does xTool Creative Space have its own fonts?
It comes with some, and it also lists every font installed on your computer. Installing a font adds it to that list after a restart.
Do I need to install the font on every computer?
Yes, fonts live on each computer. FontSmith's Reinstall everything gets all your saved fonts onto another computer in one zip.
